Premier Handyman

Frequently asked questions

Always happy to help.

Here are the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions, to view the answers click the question of interest.

  • How long have you been established?
    • Premier Handyman was established in 1995. Since then I have completed over 30,000 jobs for around 8,000 customers. And over 98% of customers participating in my satisfaction telephone survey advise they’d happily recommend my service to others.
  • Why have I not heard of you before?
    • I don’t advertise much – a big proportion of my business comes through referrals from satisfied customers, and I like it that way. It means I can spend more time focusing on delivering great service, and less time on deciding where I should advertise. Please bear this in mind when you use me – the success of my business relies on word-of-mouth, so do pass on the word if you are happy with my service. Plus you'll recieve a discount next time
  • Why are you called Premier handyman?
    • Quite simply because I aim to give a Premier service.
  • How much does your service cost?
    • I can give you an hourly rate or if you prefer a fixed job price quote.
Whichever you prefer I can guarantee you the lowest price, quotes are free and no obligation. Pensioners receive discounts. Call Free now on to get a quote. Materials that we have agreed I shall provide will be charged at the trade price I get them for to save you more money.
  • Do you come with all the right tools?
    • Yes! I carry a full range of tools to tackle a huge number of different jobs. I also carry a wide selection of small parts (screws, nails, wall plugs, plumbing connections and so forth).
  • Do you do free estimates?
    • Generally, I can give you a good idea over the telephone of how long a job is likely to take. You can then book me in, and when I arrive I will confirm or revise the estimate based on what I find at the job. If it is clearly going to take a lot longer than expected, and you decide not to go ahead, I won’t charge you anything. If you are happy to go ahead then I will do the job there and then. For larger jobs, like fitting a new bathroom, I would usually make a separate visit first to give you an estimate.
  • Are you insured?
    • Yes I am fully covered.
  • How quickly can you come out?
    • I am not really an emergency service – most of the work I do is booked in a couple of days in advance. I can often squeeze jobs in on the same day as they are booked, though, so it is worth calling to check availability.
  • Do you work weekends?
    • Yes, I can work on Saturdays, for which there is usually charge a 50% premium on the first half hour over my standard rates.
  • Do you offer a 24hr service?
    • No – usual hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. I can do jobs in the evening or on Saturdays for a 50% premium on the first half hour.
  • Are you a GasSafe registered engineer?
    • No. I am multi-skilled and can handle a wide range of repair jobs, but I am not GasSafe registered, so I don’t do any work with gas.
  • Are you a NICEIC accredited electrician?
    • No. I can do a wide range of jobs, but I limit my electrical work to replacement work, not new wiring. For new wiring (e.g. adding an entirely new lighting point) you should contact a specialist electrician. For replacing lights, switches and so on, I am the guy to call.
  • Are you a member of any trade association or guild?
    • Premier Handyman is a member of the Safe-local-trades. Please note there are some so-called trade associations or guilds that will sell anyone a membership logo for an annual fee, providing a thin veneer of respectability for their members. Given that the average consumer will not know which guilds or associations are reputable and which are not, I have chosen to let my reputation speak for itself.
    • .....
  • Will I have to wait in all day for you to show up?
    • No – I give specific one hour slots in which I aim to arrive. I am nearly always bang on time, but sometimes (particularly towards the end of the day) I might be a little late. But I will always call you well in advance to let you know my revised estimated arrival time.
  • How big a job can you take on?
    • I'm a small job expert, and so the majority of the work I do is completed within a few hours. Simple jobs often take less than 30 minutes. However, I also regularly book half or full days, to work through ‘To Do’ lists or carry out larger projects.
  • What areas do you cover?
    • I currently operate across Peterborough and it's surrounding areas (around 20 miles). Even if you think you are outside my area please call as I do cover quite a large area.
  • How can I pay?
    • I accept cash, cheque.
  • I can’t dial your 0800 number from my mobile – what is your mobile number?
